MANGUSTA 105 HISTORY

The stylish appearance of this sleek, sporty vessel with her streamlined form and curvaceous black windows, makes SAMIRA the object of many an envious look as she races through the water.

Mangusta 105 Sport: Bold and Beautiful

The parent company of Mangusta, Overmarine in Viareggio, Italy, has launched its Mark2 model of the popular Mangusta 105 Sport, with an entirely redesigned superstructure that holds an interior saloon forward of the helm area as well as an open saloon aft. Fast megayacht enthusiasts may be hearing more about the Mangusta fleet maxi open yachts now that MarineMax โ€“ the worldโ€™s largest boat distributor โ€“ carries the line.

Mangusta 150 Sport running

The Mangusta 105 Sport can run at up to 35 knots, on a pair of 2,400-hp MTUs coupled to jet drives.

The aft deck and its circular dinette and twin sunpads open to a saloon with inboard-facing settees to port and starboard, each with a pair of accompanying dinette tables. In the forward saloon, windows on three sides allow ample light and great views, and because itโ€™s five steps down from the helm deck, this space cannot be seen from the stern, providing some privacy. The amidships ownerโ€™s cabin features a full-size berth, a lounge to port and an office area to starboard. This stateroom with its enjoining head separates the galley and two crew cabins (aft) and the two guest staterooms (forward to port and starboard) and a VIP stateroom in the bow.

The engine room can be accessed via a door on the aft side of the galley. Powered with twin 2,400-hp MTUs and waterjet drives, the Mangusta 105 reaches a top speed of 35 knots and cruises at 25 knots. The long, narrow hull will deliver a smooth ride on those high-speed, long-distance cruises. Range is 500 nautical miles.

This is the 32nd Mangusta 105; the first version was launched in 1995 (some are available for charter today), and the story behind the Mangusta brand is a neat one. Maurizio Balducci and his father Giuseppe Balducci, along with his uncle Joseph, started Overmarine in 1985 โ€“ thatโ€™s when Technomarineโ€™s Cobra was the fastest boat on water. They decided to name their company after the animal that kills the cobra, Mangusta, which is Italian for mongoose. The Mangusta brand has grown steadily since the mid-80s. Based in Viareggio, the capital of the semi-custom built yachts, Overmarine Group manufacturers 10 models from 72 to 205 feet under the Mangusta brand name. Technomarine is no longer in business.

1985: AN ICON IS BORN

The Balducci family founded Mangusta in 1985, choosing a symbolic and meaningful name for the company. At the time, the leading brand for open, fast sailing vessels was Cobra by Tecnomarine. Named after the mongoose โ€“ the only animal that can tackle and defeat cobras โ€“ Mangusta clearly set out to challenge the status quo.

ONE FAMILY AT THE HELM OF THE BRAND. SINCE THE BEGINNING.

AN ITALIAN STORY - THE BALDUCCI FAMILY

Giuseppe Balducci was born in Limite sullโ€™Arno, a nautical town in Tuscany. He began his career working in a historic shipyard in Viareggio, but his entrepreneurial spirit and his talent for capturing market trends soon spurred him to look for more. Thus Elettromare, Effebi and, later, the Overmarine Group were born. The family-owned and family-managed business now includes Giuseppeโ€™s children, Maurizio and Katia Balducci. We are a team deep rootly in our Italian heritage, always loyal to our original values, yet able to keep our gaze aimed towards the future.

THE FIRST MANGUSTA YACHT - OPEN. BETTER YET, MAXI OPEN.

Since the beginning of its journey, Mangusta revolutionized yachting with its innovations. In the 1990s, the company launched the Mangusta 80. Up until that moment, โ€œopenโ€ yachts had never reached 80 feet in length and, most importantly, had always forced buyers to compromise between speed and space, sportiness and comfort. Mangusta changed that forever, building a large, high-performance sports yacht that was exceptionally comfortable and liveable. The Mangusta 80 was a huge success, leaving its mark in history and making the brand known all over the world. It was the beginning of Maxi Open! Over the years, models grew even bigger. Their streamlined, sporty lines make them timeless classics โ€“ true icons in their field.

THE MANGUSTA FAMILY GROWS - THE NEW LINES

Visionaries by nature, Mangusta's engineers continue to achieve new heights in yacht design and performance. In recent years, the company had developed two new lines. In 2016, we introduced the first tri-deck yacht in the Mangusta Oceano line: displacement vessels with great range that allow you to travel the world in style, to any destination and across any distance. More recently, the new Mangusta GranSport line launched, setting a new benchmark by merging top performances and transoceanic range. Mangustaโ€™s story continues, with a fleet destined to grow.
